Your body goes through so many changes when you’re pregnant. From your growing tummy to lusher locks, the next nine months are going to be full of wonderful changes, all in preparation for the birth of your baby. Along with those changes may come symptoms of forgetfulness.

Forgetting where your keys are or even putting on two different socks isn’t happening because you’re losing your mind. Guess what? These forgetful acts go hand in hand with being pregnant.

Pregnancy fog is as common as morning sickness, Thankfully, both usually clear up relatively quickly on their own. However, there are ways to ease the sometimes embarrassing symptoms of pregnancy brain until your fog clears.

What is Pregnancy Fog?

Momnesia is a foggy state that a lot of pregnant women experience. The most common symptoms include inability to focus, forgetfulness, and feeling that you are “spacing out” for no reason. It can happen throughout the entire pregnancy or during certain trimesters.

Make a List

You can avoid forgetting essential tasks by writing everything down. Carry a pen and pad with you and notate everything you think is important. It might seem a bit extreme, but in between fluctuating hormones and your expanding belly, it’s easy to forget even the most important of things.

Stay Active

In addition to writing everything down, you also need to stay active. Shoot for at least 30 minutes of light aerobic activity a day. It’s not only good for you but your baby too. However, always make sure that you are cleared from a medical standpoint. Your body is going through many physical changes, so be sure that you are allowed to perform your favorite exercises during pregnancy.

Count More Sheep

Not getting enough sleep is the best way to not only feel irritable but also feel like you are walking around in a haze. As you progress through your pregnancy, getting a good night’s rest is even more important. Rest when you need to and know it is okay to need more sleep than before.

Be Kind to Yourself

Even if you are used to juggling 10 different tasks with ease, you need to be kinder to yourself. Being pregnant is not always easy. In fact, some women are ill for their entire pregnancy, so you need to give yourself a break. Step back and practice self-care. Give yourself breathing room and know that it is perfectly okay to say you need a break.

Final Thoughts

Over the next nine months, your body is preparing for your baby’s arrival. While some changes are laughable, as moms, we know many can leave us in tears. But when it comes to forgetfulness during pregnancy, remember that even if you forget to put on your socks, this too will pass.
