What a relief! You’ve searched high and low and finally found the perfect photographer for your family. Unfortunately, that’s only half the work. There are so many things to think about when planning the perfect photo shoot for your family, like the location and your wardrobe. Read on for all the essential tips and tricks!
How to find the perfect location?
You’ve searched the entire web and chosen a photographer that fits your family’s style, budget and personality. Awesome! This was really the most difficult task. Your photographer probably already has a number of locations in mind. Make sure you choose a location that suits your family well. Do you like to bake pancakes on Sunday mornings and do you want an authentic portrait of your cozy mess? Then go for a session in your own home. Or do you love adventure and can often be found in the woods or on the beach? Then ask your photographer for a rural location. Choose a beautiful spot in nature and romp together in the dunes or in the woods. The location you choose is representative for the character of your family. Make sure you choose a place where you feel completely at home!
Once you’ve found the perfect location, you can start thinking about your wardrobe. Tune your clothes to your location. For example, a cocktail dress and extensive make-up might not be a good idea if you’re having a session at home on a Sunday morning. Going out into the wild? Then opt for natural simplicity. Going into town? Think stylish, chic and modern. Check out Pinterest for inspiration for your outfit!
Start with mommy’s outfit. You know better than anyone what suits you and what makes you feel good. Then think about what the rest will attract. Make sure everyone fits together, but doesn’t exactly match (so not all in jeans and white shirts)! Don’t hesitate to ask your photographer for advice.
Experience? What?! Isn’t that the photographer’s responsibility? Absolutely. But there are so many ways you can make this experience fun for the whole family. Don’t think of the photo shoot as a chore that needs to be removed from your to-do list. It is a quiet moment where you can enjoy each other undisturbed. This may not be easy, but it will result in beautiful, sincere photos that you will cherish for the rest of your life.
Don’t bribe your children!
Make sure you bring water and easy snacks that don’t cause a mess. But bribing your child with sweets in exchange for a smile in front of the camera will quickly become annoying. What’s more, this technique usually doesn’t produce a sincere smile. The photographer is probably an expert with children, so leave your control grade for what it is. A nice, not stressed out mother results in a nice, not stressed out photo shoot. Don’t forget to have fun!
